THE IFCBA CONTINUES ITS WORK IN THE WCO'S PRIVATE SECTOR CONSULTATIVE GROUP

Shantanu Bhadkamkar (IFCBA Chairman), Carol West (IFCBA Secretary) and Jaime King (IFCBA Past Chairman) join Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya, Deputy Secretary General Sergio Mujica, Asha Menon and colleagues at the meeting of the WCO Private Sector Consultative Group, Brussels,  July 12, 2016

At the meeting on July 11-12 of the World Customs Organization’s Private Sector Consultative Group (PSCG),  the IFCBA learned that  it will continue as a PSCG member in the coming year.  We are delighted with this news. Seven of the twenty-one PSCG members appointed in 2015 are stepping aside and new members of the group include:   BMW Group, Diageo, eBay, FONASBA and Huawei.

On behalf of the IFCBA and its members around the world, as well as PSCG representatives Jaime King and Carol West, IFCBA Chairman Shantanu Bhadkamkar expressed thanks to WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya for the trust he has placed in our organization by supporting the IFCBA’s continued membership in the PSCG.

In the past year, the IFCBA has contributed to the work of three of the PSCG’s Special Action Groups on performance measurement, data flow and quality and e-commerce. The IFCBA is  committed to continue to add value to the PSCG and to the WCO going forward.

The IFCBA expects to be very engaged in the coming year with work on data requirements for the private sector, including some mapping of the complexity of data requirements, raising awareness of who has data in the commercial process, and what business-to-business processes look like.  In addition, a new WCO working group has been established on e-commerce which will be of interest to IFCBA members around the world.

We know that our members support and promote the work of the WCO internationally and with national governments and Customs administrations.  Membership in the PSCG is one important way we can contribute to  the success of that work.
