The following is excerpted from a 16 January 2012 press release by the World Customs Organization.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Customs Organization (WCO) will work together, to enhance the capacity of Customs administrations in Africa.

This declaration was made today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, during the signing ceremony of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding, on the margins of the 18th African Union Summit. The summit, which is taking place in Ethiopia from 23-30 January, is focusing on boosting intra-African trade – an area in which Customs administrations can play a vital role in strengthening national and regional economies in Africa.
