Jamaica: Importers Must Apply for Permits Through Jamaica Single Window for Trade (JSWIFT)

Effective Monday, July 20, importers applying for permits from the Trade Board Limited (TBL), must do so through the Jamaica Single Window for Trade (JSWIFT) facility, in keeping with the thrust to improve trade efficiency.

The TBL will cease accepting new applications, as part of the phased digitisation of State Border Regulatory Agencies (BRAs), facilitating import and export related engagements under the JSWIFT initiative.

Roberto Azevêdo, director-general of the World Trade Organization, told Ahram Online in an interview that the coronavirus crisis has caused a shock to the world's economies that will hit growth and reduce the volume of international trade exchange by more than 13 percent؜.

He also said that while WTO regulations allow countries to temporarily ban some strategic exports, may of these initial trade restrictions have now been lifted.

Within the framework of the WCO Capacity Building Programs for the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), the WCO delivered a national workshop on Time Release Study (TRS) to support the national efforts of the Customs Administration of Liberia in moving forward with its TRS project. The workshop was organized from the 8th to 9th July 2020, virtually, as part of the preparation for the Liberia TRS Working Group (WG) to start drafting the TRS report. The virtual workshop was conducted using the WEBEX platform.
