Electronic single window system enhances transparency in trade

The adoption of the Electronic Single Window system (eSW) provides the key to simplifying cross-border trade and the enhancement of real-time information sharing and exchange between customs and other border agencies and private sector stakeholders. It has also enhanced Rwanda’s competitive advantage as an efficient player in the area of trade. The Electronic Single Window was launched in 2012 in partnership with TradeMark East Africa (TMEA).

WTO members were urged on 3 March to start preparing for the entry into force of the new Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) by notifying to the WTO what their technical assistance and capacity-building needs are, and how much time they will need to ensure effective implementation of the Agreement.

Rwanda: Removal of Informal Taxation At Rwanda-DRC Border Will Boost Trade

The Congolese government has decided to reinstate the 24-hour operations of the Goma-Rubavu border posts.

The move has been welcomed by residents of both sides of the border who look forward to increase trade volumes, mostly driven by cross-border trade.

Cross-border trade plays an important part in the country's economic health. For example, in 2014, Rwanda's total informal transactions bordered around $138 million, a figure that speaks volumes.

WTO trade facilitation pact cleared

Nearly two years after the Bali agreement, the Cabinet on Wednesday approved the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), which seeks to ease Customs procedures to boost commerce. To implement the agreement, two-thirds of the total members, or 107 countries, have to approve it. India was the 71st country to give nod to the agreement.
