Korea, Pakistan likely to start FTA negotiations

South Korea and Pakistan are likely to announce negotiations to clinch a free trade agreement (FTA) soon, according to a source familiar with the issue, The Korea Times reported on Sunday.

The Pakistani trade minister will visit Seoul this week to discuss the matter with his Korean counterpart, he told The Korea Times on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media regarding the issue.

China to deepen ties with ASEAN by upgrading free trade agreement

China has said it will finish negotiations on upgrading the China-ASEAN Free Trade Areacalled CAFTA by the end of this year, said Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli on Friday.

He said economic and trade cooperation is the base and guide of the construction of the Beltand Road Initiative.

"China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will further deepen economic andtrade cooperation and mutually create an upgraded version of CAFTA," Zhang said at theopening ceremony of the 12th China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang autonomousregion.

Indonesia to join TPP, president says after meeting Obama

WASHINGTON – Indonesia’s leader looked to cement his nation’s growing ties with the United States, declaring after a meeting Monday with President Barack Obama that Southeast Asia’s largest economy intended to join a sweeping U.S.-backed Pacific Rim trade deal.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo is making his first Washington visit since winning power a year ago, and is keen to drum up American investment in a flagging economy. U.S. companies complain that economic protectionism makes it difficult to do business there.
