More members urge Argentina to lift import-licensing measures

At the Council for Trade in Goods meeting on 30 March 2012, 14 members jointly expressed their deepening concern about Argentina’s import-licensing measures. Argentina maintained these measures were compatible with the WTO, and rejected the joint statement as unjustified.

Round Table on high-level dialogue on Customs issues takes place in Tokyo

Under the framework of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), Japan Customs organized a Round Table on high-level dialogue with Customs administrations from member countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) on 26 and 27 March 2012 in Tokyo.

As we prepare for the 2012 Board of Directors and Annual meetings, we require each member country to provide us with the names of your country’s two representatives to the IFCBA Board of Directors for 2012 - 2014 as well as any nominations for the positions of Chairman and Managing Director.  Please note that you are not required to submit nominations for the positions of Managing Director and Chairman.

WTO Dispute Settlement Agenda

The WTO Secretariat has circulated a meeting notice and list of items proposed for the next meeting, on 23 March 2012, of the Dispute Settlement Body, which consists of all WTO members and oversees legal disputes among them. The meeting notice is circulated in the form of a document officially called an “airgram”.

WTO and OECD to develop statistics on trade in value added

The following is from a 15 March 2012 news item by the World Trade Organization.

The WTO and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) have signed a letter of understanding to develop statistics on trade in value added. Among other things, the two organizations will produce a publicly-available database of trade flows estimated in value-added terms.
