WTO releases 2011 trade and tariff data

The WTO released on 23 October 2012 its annual package of trade and tariff data, providing detailed statistics on import/export trade flows and tariff rates in 2011. This package includes the 2012 editions of its annual publications — International Trade Statistics, Trade Profiles and World Tariff Profiles — plus an update of the WTO Statistics Database and other data sources.

Friends of Safeguards urge more transparency and due process in investigations

A new ten-delegation WTO grouping called Friends of Safeguards Procedures (FSP), at the Committee on Safeguards meeting on 22 October 2012, expressed concern about “procedural, transparency, and due process issues” related to certain safeguard investigations.

Items proposed for consideration at the next meeting of Dispute Settlement Body

The WTO Secretariat has circulated a meeting notice and list of items proposed for the next meeting, on 23 October 2012, of the Dispute Settlement Body, which consists of all WTO members and oversees legal disputes among them. The meeting notice is circulated in the form of a document officially called an “airgram”.
