Panels set up on Australia's tobacco measures and on US duties on China's exports

At its meeting on 28 September 2012, the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) agreed to establish a panel on Australia’s measures on plain packaging of tobacco products (DS434) and another one on countervailing duty measures on exports from China to the United States (DS437).

Lamy: "Multilateralism is struggling"

The following is excerpted from a 24 September 2012 speech by Pascal Lamy of the World Trade Organization.

Director-General Pascal Lamy, in welcoming participants to WTO’s Public Forum 2012 on 24 September 2012, said: “While multilateralism is struggling in almost all spheres of global co-operation, I stand here before you with some optimism. We are after all gathered in the “house of trade”. An international house that rose out of the ashes of two World Wars and which took some 60 years to create.”

U.S. complies with WTO aircraft dispute ruling

The following is from the 25 September 2012 edition of American Shipper.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative on Monday submitted notification to the World Trade Organization’s Dispute Settlement Body detailing the United States’ compliance with the WTO’s recommendations in the large civil aircraft dispute with the European Union related to U.S. government subsidies to Boeing.

Lamy warns rise of regional trade agreements could lead to "policy fragmentation"

The following is from a 20 September 2012 speech by Pascal Lamy of the World Trade Organization.

Director-General Pascal Lamy, in a speech at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing on 20 September 2012 said that “as an international community we must continue to fight protectionism, but in the WTO in particular, we must also fight policy fragmentation.”
