IFCBA Immediate Past Chair Recognized by Institutions of Higher Learning

The IFCBA Secretariat was very pleased to learn that IFCBA Immediate Past Chair, Mr. Shantanu Bhadkamkar has been nominated, by His Excellency The President of India, as a Member on the Court of Indian Maritime University (IMU) for a three-year term. IMU was established through an Act of Parliament, and it encompasses under its fold seven premier government institutions.

Africa struggles to stem deadly flood of fake medicine

After he was struck down by malaria and typhoid, Togolese tailor Ayawo Hievi thought he was set to recover when he started taking drugs prescribed by his doctor.

But far from curing him, the medication he was given at the neighbourhood clinic made him far worse—eventually costing him one of his kidneys. The drugs were fake.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that every year some 100,000 people across Africa die from taking "falsified or substandard" medication.

39th WCO-UPU Contact Committee endorses joint WCO-UPU guidelines on data capture and compliance with the CN22/23

Around 40 experts from Customs administrations and postal operators met in Bern, Switzerland on 10 and 11 December 2019 in the framework of the WCO-UPU Contact Committee, where participants discussed the challenges and way forward related to the implementation of electronic advance data (EAD) exchange, how to secure data quality, cooperation between Customs and Posts, potential integration and harmonization of the data of CN22/23, etc.

WCO supports Thailand on the Harmonized System and Advance Rulings on Classification

A National Workshop on the Harmonized System and Advance Rulings on Classification was held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 16 to 20 December 2019.  The Workshop, jointly organized by the WCO and the Thai Customs Department and funded by CCF Japan, was facilitated by two experts from the WCO Secretariat.  It was attended by 30 officials from the Customs Tariff Division, Customs Tariff Appeal Section, International Customs Tariff Section and Customs Talent Management Programme, all working at the Headquarters.
