PHILIPPINES: Chamber of Customs Brokers Inc. (CCBI) seeks recall of Bureau of Customs (BOC) order allowing operation of unlicensed brokers

An order by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) allowing non-Customs brokers to practice the profession has been described by the Chamber of Customs Brokers Inc. (CCBI) as “unfair and degrading” to professional customs brokers.

In a letter obtained by the BusinessMirror, the CCBI wrote to Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero requesting for the recall of Customs Memorandum Order (CMO) 34-2019.

On 27 June 2019 during the annual WCO Council sessions, Vice-Minister of China Customs Mr. Wang Lingjun and WCO Secretary General Dr. Kunio Mikuriya signed a renewed Grant Agreement for the China Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF-China). Under this Agreement, the Government of the People’s Republic of China has pledged a total amount of 5 million euro over five years to support WCO Customs Capacity Building activities for the Organization’s developing and least-developed Members.

Report: E-commerce growth drives warehouse demand in India over supply for the first time

Warehousing demand in India has overtaken supply for the first time in four years, with e-commerce and global consumer goods companies driving much of the growth. 

According to a new report by property developer Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), last year India’s total stock of Grade A and B warehousing space increased 22% year on year to 169 million sq ft. 

“Last year saw India’s warehousing sector come of age, outshining some of the conventional real estate asset classes and attracting global investors,” the report notes.
