WTO members examine utilization of tariff preferences for least-developed countries (LDCs), links to rules of origin

At a meeting of the Committee on Rules of Origin on 15-16 May, WTO members continued to review the use and application of preferential rules of origin programmes for least-developed countries (LDCs). Members discussed a report from the WTO Secretariat looking at possible links between rules of origin and the low use of tariff preferences for LDC agricultural exports, and heard reports from the LDC Group further examining the issue of change of tariff classification criterion in drafting “substantial transformation” provisions of rules of origin.

Chinese customs expands international cooperation on IPR protection

BEIJING, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese customs will strengthen international collaboration on intellectual property rights (IPR) protection, an official with the General Administration of Customs (GAC) said Wednesday.

Jin Hai, chief of the GAC's Department of General Operation, told a press conference that the administration has established a cooperative mechanism with customs from more than 130 countries or regions.

Maersk adds customs clearance to booking capability

It has been brought to our attention that Maersk is expanding its online booking services to include customs clearance and is already licensed to operate as a customs broker in some countries.  IFCBA members may want to watch for when Maersk adds your country to the list of those where customs clearance is provided.

Korea vows to enhance 'capacity building' at WCO

China, Japan to implement AEO customs agreement in June

BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) -- The China-Japan agreement on mutual Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status will go into effect on June 1 to provide easier customs clearance for exporters, according to the General Administration of Customs (GAC).

Under the agreement, companies that obtain the AEO status in the two countries will enjoy simplified customs procedures, such as reduced examination and prioritized clearance, when they export products to the other country.

China and Japan signed the AEO agreement in October last year, said the GAC.
