US: USTR Proposes Products for Tariff Countermeasures in Response to Harm Caused by EU Aircraft Subsidies

Washington, DC – The World Trade Organization (WTO) has found repeatedly that European Union (EU) subsidies to Airbus have caused adverse effects to the United States.  Today, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) begins its process under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 to identify products of the EU to which additional duties may be applied until the EU removes those subsidies.

E-commerce is a gift from heaven for the air cargo sector but it faces several challenges if it is to capitalise on the opportunity it presents, according to speakers at the World Cargo Symposium.

Ludwig Hausmann, partner at McKinsey & Company, said that e-commerce had grown at a year-on-year rate of 20% over the last 15 years. Growth is expected to continue at 10-15% over the next five to 10 years.

US: President Trump Removing India and Turkey from Generalized System of Preferences (GSP)

President Trump indicated in a press release from the USTR that he intends to remove India and Turkey from the list of Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) eligible countries. GSP provides reduced tariff rates for certain products from certain developing and least developed countries.
